RACE IN THE NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs return to their home field on opening day after coming off their first Super Bowl appearance and win in 50 years. Coming off of an extremely racially-charged off-season, with the death of George Floyd and the acknowledgement by the NFL of not being outspoken enough in the fight to end racism, the hometown heroes, in partnership with their opposing team members, the Houston Texans, make a decision to pose for a moment of silence before the game's start.

No knee was knelt, no flag was flown, yet the response they received by their own fans was one that sparked controversy and conversation across the nation. Was it really a boo? So many attempted to deny it, yet eye-witness accounts and shameless streamed video to platforms like Facebook proved otherwise.

This was a boo, on their home field, by their own fans, while making their first appearance as reigning Super Bowl Champions.
